Tiling materials source Worthing-Chichester area? Hello, I'm having trouble finding any decent stockists locally. I've got a Topps very near, plus the usual generalists... All the tile suppliers I've looked at in Chichester online, only show tiles, not all the unglamorous stuff like backer and sealing tapes & compounds. Can anyone recommend a supplier in this area (Worthing to Chichester)? Or otherwise online: I've been researching tanking for my alcove shower (1200*800 Mira Flight 3 upstands) and losing the will to live - everyone says x or y is best but can I assume that products at a similar price point are broadly similar or are there clear leaders? FWIW, the walls are two of plaster on thermalite blocks* and a new short stud...
Big thanks to Topps Tiles and Tile Giant for Saving CTD Stores I know it wasn't all of them but it must have been all the ones that were working well that got saved. So I think Topps Tiles and Tile Giant need a massive thankyou from me personally on behalf of the forum. We have loads of tilers across the country who use CTD as they sponsored us for 3 years some time ago. So it was gutting news when it came in that they were struggling after being sold off by Saint Gobain who must have seen it coming. SO TO TOPPS AND TILE GIANT THANKS FROM ALL HERE AT TILERSFORUMS Drinks are on me whenever I see any of you. :) I know it wasn't all of them but it must have been all the ones that were working well that got saved. Thoughts on CTD prices & redundancies? Just wondered what people’s thoughts are on CTD sacking loads of people and going after retail rather than trade customers? Is this Cement particle board what I require? - wetroom Hello all I’m just about to make a start with the walls and floor of my new wetroom The walls are metal stud walling And are to be finished with a combination of Cement particle board In the wet areas and adjacent areas And MR plasterboard on the far end of the wetroom. On closer inspection of the boards I’ve bought They appear to be wood fibre core cement boards They are smooth dark grey boards 12mm thick With what looks like metal particles inside when looking at the sides of the board Apparently the boards have excellent water resistance etc and are also used in external cladding etc But can someone in the know confirm that I can use these? Tile layout thoughts - Tilers Forums
Tile layout thoughts Hi, First time setting out tiles, so I've drawn out a bit of a plan. I was hoping someone with a bit more experience could share any thoughts. Fairly happy with the horizontal layout. The backdoor has a really thin strip just infront of it, but it's not easy to avoid. I'm wondering whether to put an inset doormat there since I'm putting one by the front door due to low clearance. Tiles are 600mm by 400mm and I'm planning on using 6mm tile spacing. Any thoughts welcome. Thanks Hi, First time setting out tiles, so I've drawn out a bit of a plan. I was hoping someone with a bit more experience could share any thoughts. Discoloured shower room tiles and cracked grout Our house was renovated 5 years ago, builders were pretty shoddy. One of our shower rooms is hardly used but recently in the last 2 weeks we have been using it daily multiple times. I noticed some discoloration on tiles and on closer inspection noticed some hairline cracks in some grout near the bottom. We pulled out the Silicon and theres some mould under it in a few areas. We were told all our wetrooms would be tanked but looking back at our old pictures kinda doubt it was done properly. Pressing on the tiles they dont feel loose. Im just wondering if we can try to just dig one some grout where affected to see if I can dry it out and just reseal everything with grout and Silicon the...

Where floor meets wall Hi all, we are tiling our wet room bathroom. Loft conversion, chipboard flooring, tile backer board, waterproofing/tanking then floor tiles on top. The tiled floor meets a plastered wall which we will paint, it's away from the shower area so essentially just a standard bathroom finish is fine. We are thinking about how to finish this join. We are considering - just caulk vs cutting down floor tiles to create tile skirting with trim on top exposed edge vs wood skirting boards (sealed to protect against moisture). Micro-cracks to SLC poured on top of Wunda UFH boards Hi all, Was looking for some advice in regards to micro-cracks appearing on the SLC on top of the Wunda rapid response system that was put down. The boards were primed twice with Mapei Eco Grip Plus before Mapei renovation screed 3240 was poured on top. The cracks appeared after 2-3 days of drying and there has been light footfall over the areas. The subfloor is a mixture of concrete and suspended tongue and groove floorboards and plan to have 10mm porcelain tiles laid on top with either of 2 methods: 1. decoupling membrane and S1 adhesive 2. S2 adhesive only Are the cracks anything to be worried about and which method would be best to tile on top of the floor? Hi all, Was...

Is the christmas rush happening this year or not? (2024) Wondering if the christmas rush happening this year or not? (2024) Just with the state of the economy and house building industry not being brilliant. Hoping you're getting enough to get you into January by now at least. If you do find yourself getting less work a tip is to do 4 day weeks planned-in and the extra day catch up with paperwork and quotes and hit the job sites for small local work as you can often find somebody in a rush and even a 2 day job could be done in about 8 days if you always have Fridays only or Mondays only off, you'd get back round to it in a weeks time so can still take on kitchen splashbacks and things. Wondering if the christmas rush...
How to cut Terracotta? Hi, I have a job coming up which is a Terracotta floor and I need to know the best way to do the cuts, never having worked with Terracotta before. I was advised by one person that I should either use a wet cutter but without water or use a hand saw because the use of water would cause staining of the tiles. I have looked around the internet and everywhere else it says I should use a wet cutter with water. Both routes say to seal the tiles after laying and before grouting. Now obviously I don't want to do anything that detracts from the look of the Terracotta, but I am totally confused as to which is the correct method :mad2:. I pride myself on doing a good job each and every-time and do not this to be the...
Wall Tiles Not Sticking Hi folks, hope you can point me in the right direction here :mad2: I'm putting ceramic tiles on a ply faced wall (sealed with pva), using unibond waterproof adhesive. Trouble is, the tiles are sticking initially, but then 'pop' off the wall as they dry. Adhesive is sticking well to the wall, but the tiles are coming off virtually clean. I'm applying the adhesive to the wall, and only covering about 2 tiles worth at a time. Tiles are 250x335. Done quite a lot of tiling over the years, but never had this before !! Any ideas ?? UFH with Threshold Vs Cold Floor? - Tilers Forums
UFH with Threshold Vs Cold Floor? What would you Pro’s do? A new extension has electric UFH in the screed which has been brought up to match the floor level of the house. I’m tiling with porcelain (600x600x10mm) from the extension into the house and would like to install eUFH underneath.

From sub floor up the eUFH looks like: 2mm bed of adhesive under insulation boards 6mm Tile backer boards 2mm bed of adhesive for HC mat decoupling 6mm HC mat with loose cable clipped into it 6mm Self Level over surface of lugs in matting (12mm depth in total surrounding loose cable in HC mat) Total height build up from sub floor – 22mm This would bring the final height of the house tiles to 16mm above that of the new extension tiles. Anti-crack matting and S2 adhesive or is it overkill? Hi guys, 1st post so apologies if I’ve missed any key info. We’ve had liquid screed laid 2 months ago on top of underfloor heating. Question: given the screed is in good condition (flat/dry/no undulation), do I need to lay both an anti-cracking matt and use S2 adhesive or will the S2 adhesive suffice? Or are there other options i.e matting but with a S1 adhesive? I will be priming the screed once I’ve knocked the underfloor heating off for a couple of days - (I’ve seen this advice/guidance elsewhere on the web.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Which sealer? Please advise me on a sealer or two. I've had white porcelain tiles with light grey grout laid for 4/5 months & the grout had darkened & the tiles are difficult to clean. Once sealed, I do plan on getting a kitchen runner. I read a review on Amazon for LTP H20 sealer & the image left me worried. There is the spirit/solvent based one but I'd rather use a water based one if possible, but would consider solvent. I've also been looking at Tile Doctor Ultra Seal but can't find any reviews, & also Lithofin sealers. I may use this brand to clean the grout to look as new before sealing. Ensuite Tiling. SLC on HardieBacker? Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the best method to level my ensuite floor. The floor is green chipboard over joists. Chipboard is screwed and glued and very secure. Stud walls over the top so no chance/appetite of taking it up to sister joists. The floor is flat but not 100% level, if it wasn't for the fact we have a shower tray that needs to be installed on top of the finished tile I wouldn't care about making it perfectly level. Shower tray is very low profile and the edges sit on finished tile while bottom of tray sits in the void between tiles and clipboard (just tile around shower tray perimeter). This is my current plan. 6mm hardie backer (already have), self level, decoupling mat...
Sigma Art 4.A Handle I'm doing a cleanup / restoration of an old Art 4.A Sigma cutter and it's missing the top screw in the handle (Yellow Arrow in image) Handle part number is # Art 24AE I can see on the part image it is a hex screw. Without this screw the 10mm cutout slot in the cutter handle just drags along the top of the bar. Also there's another lower hex screw behind the scribing wheel (Red Arrow in image) that has a round metal collar that is worn flat and won't spin freely. (second image) Is that where the replacement bearing goes ? Does this model handle have two identical bearing that run along the top and bottom of the bar ? Help please, so confused. Cement board vs ply under tiles for wet UFH system Hi there, we have just installed a Hetta UFH system.. they recommend a 6mm plywood over the top before tiling. Sigma 4A "retired" I bought a 'retired' (dirty and beat up) Sigma Art- 4.A I got it pretty cheap with the intention of just doing a bathroom or two and that's it. But this thing is beat and has seen many years of battle hardened commercial use. Caked in cement and glue and I'm trying to revive it. the rubber feet are worn off completely it sits on its bare base now. Just wondering when pro's retire their sigma gear what makes them give up on a cutter? what tends to fail ? is it just the bar that doesn't run smooth anymore? or a question of slop in the handle ? The fence is cut nearly thru from the scribe wheel hits. What can I do to resurrect and restore this Sigma ? besides give it some new feet. Do these things ever really die...
Grout cracked after 6 months Had new bathroom by a builder who has subsequently gone bust and after 6 months the floor has had it! The floor is floorboard on which he put plywood down on (and underfloor heating) with floor tiles on top. There's a LOT of flex in areas of the floor and so the grout has started popping out (probably 10-15% of the total grout has popped out, already). Clearly he didn't lay thick enough ply. I've had a quote to re-lay the whole floor and it's a huge sum of money that I just don't have, so hoping to first attempt to re-grout with a maximum-flex-tolerant grout. Hoping for some advice on which product to use, please? Have found Mapei KERACOLOR FLEX or ULTRACOLOR PLUS as options, but also had KERAPOXY CQ...
Novice-replacing tiles ensuite - Tilers Forums
Novice-replacing tiles ensuite Hello, Novice DIY tiler here looking for advice please. I'm replacing tiles in very small upstairs ensuite toilet (floor area 2 m squared). They were put direct onto plywood (by another) 15 years ago and have cracked over the years. I'm in process of removing adhesive. Sink and toilet have been removed. Skirting (onto mostly stud walls) wasn't removed during original job. I was thinking i could install 6mm cement board over existing ply and raise the floor level and raise the fixtures the extra fraction? Will the layer of adhesive under the cement board make up for any unevenness in the different ply boards? What are my easier/better options? If i didn't want to increase is my only option to remove...
Levelling and tiling en-suite floor with Mapei Ultraplan Renovation - Tilers Forums
Levelling and tiling en-suite floor with Mapei Ultraplan Renovation Hi all, I'm an enthusiastic DIY'er (first time poster) who has been slowly chipping away at an en-suite bathroom renovation for a few months. Last night I went to install the shower tray (1600 x 900) and I realised that the floor by the drain end was about 10mm higher than the floor at the other end. This slope continues across the whole room. I've concluded that the best solution to this problem is to use some self levelling compound as not only will this level the shower tray but it should help get a better finish on the floor which is being tiled with 1200mm wood plank porcelain tiles. As you can see in the photo, the floor is 22mm chipboard which is glued...

The Tile Association for Tile Fixers and Tile Retailers - Join Today for Many Benefits
The Tile Association for Tile Fixers and Tile Retailers - Join Today for Many Benefits The Tile Association (TTA) was formed in January 2000, through the amalgamation of the NMTFA (National Master Tile Fixers’ Association), the NTA (National Tile Association), the TPB (Tile Promotion Board) and the British Ceramic Tile Council, with over 75 years of combined industry experience. Since formation, TTA has more than doubled in size as the single, independent association for the entire UK tiling industry. TTA now has more than 1,000 member business units, consisting of tiling contractors, fixers, distributors, retailers and manufacturers. The aim is to achieve a competent, qualified workforce in the industry. https://tiles.org.uk They...
She put herself up for a TTA award a few years back I sent a PM to 13,700 active users and asked them to consider all but please try vote for miss tiler as she's part of the forum and perhaps we can do this each year to help the forum. I had hundreds of replies saying they thought another tiler was best (various ones) but they voted miss tiler. TTA would never have had hundreds of votes on any one winner. There are usually about 70 votes to win I hear. Each vote each year has a voting id that reveals the number of total votes. I vote on the last day usually to get totals. Tilers Forums hands down used collective voting to win her that. Obviously her job was mint too, I liked it best. That's why I picked her to do it with. She...
