What’s the uk record time spent setting out? Hi, First floor tiled, seems setting out way trickier than a bathroom! Alcohol down yesterday and happy with the results. I’m about 3hrs deep setting out at the moment, slow progress 🤣😡 Any tips? I can’t find anything that doesn’t leave a narrow cut down to 70mm. Tiles are 490 square. Thanks, Matt Hi, First floor tiled, seems setting out way trickier than a bathroom! Alcohol down yesterday and happy with the results. I’m about 3hrs...
Thread 'Tile layout thoughts - Tilers Forums'
Tile layout thoughts Hi, First time setting out tiles, so I've drawn out a bit of a plan. I was hoping someone with a bit more experience could share any thoughts. Fairly happy with the horizontal layout. The backdoor has a really thin strip just infront of it, but it's not easy to avoid. I'm wondering whether to put an inset doormat there since I'm putting one by the front door due to low clearance. Tiles are 600mm by 400mm and I'm planning on using 6mm tile spacing. Any thoughts...
Discoloured shower room tiles and cracked grout Our house was renovated 5 years ago, builders were pretty shoddy. One of our shower rooms is hardly used but recently in the last 2 weeks we have been using it daily multiple times. I noticed some discoloration on tiles and on closer inspection noticed some hairline cracks in some grout near the bottom. We pulled out the Silicon and theres some mould under it in a few areas. We were told all our wetrooms would be tanked but looking back at...
Bottom wall tile advice Hi, Ive had a low shower tray installed, 27mm height & will be tiling using metro tiles that are 100mm. I also plan to use lvt flooring 6mm thickness. Would you start with a full tile around shower tray & have narrow off cuts of tiles at the floor or could you suggest a better option? Where floor meets wall Hi all, we are tiling our wet room bathroom. Loft conversion, chipboard flooring, tile backer board, waterproofing/tanking then floor tiles on top. The tiled floor meets a plastered wall which we will paint, it's away from the shower area so essentially just a standard bathroom finish is fine. We are thinking about how to finish this join. We are considering - just caulk vs cutting down floor tiles to create tile skirting with trim on top exposed edge vs wood...
Micro-cracks to SLC poured on top of Wunda UFH boards Hi all, Was looking for some advice in regards to micro-cracks appearing on the SLC on top of the Wunda rapid response system that was put down. The boards were primed twice with Mapei Eco Grip Plus before Mapei renovation screed 3240 was poured on top. The cracks appeared after 2-3 days of drying and there has been light footfall over the areas. The subfloor is a mixture of concrete and suspended tongue and groove floorboards and...

Hole saw bits Which is best? What are people’s opinions on different brands of hole saw, specifically the M14 ones that can go on the grinder. I have started using Marcrist dry cut ones and they’re brilliant but expensive. Just wondered if there are any others out there that last as long and cut as well for a slightly cheaper price. I should also add that I mainly use them for porcelain and ceramic What are people’s opinions on different brands of hole saw, specifically the M14 ones...
Is the christmas rush happening this year or not? (2024) Wondering if the christmas rush happening this year or not? (2024) Just with the state of the economy and house building industry not being brilliant. Hoping you're getting enough to get you into January by now at least. If you do find yourself getting less work a tip is to do 4 day weeks planned-in and the extra day catch up with paperwork and quotes and hit the job sites for small local work as you can often find somebody in...
How to cut Terracotta? Hi, I have a job coming up which is a Terracotta floor and I need to know the best way to do the cuts, never having worked with Terracotta before. I was advised by one person that I should either use a wet cutter but without water or use a hand saw because the use of water would cause staining of the tiles. I have looked around the internet and everywhere else it says I should use a wet cutter with water. Both routes say to seal the tiles after laying and before...
Wall Tiles Not Sticking Hi folks, hope you can point me in the right direction here :mad2: I'm putting ceramic tiles on a ply faced wall (sealed with pva), using unibond waterproof adhesive. Trouble is, the tiles are sticking initially, but then 'pop' off the wall as they dry. Adhesive is sticking well to the wall, but the tiles are coming off virtually clean. I'm applying the adhesive to the wall, and only covering about 2 tiles worth at a time. Tiles are 250x335. Done quite a lot of...

Hydrated Lime. Hello All. Got a grade 2 listed job coming up. Part of it involves replacing some original quarry tiles in what will be there utility room. The original tiles were apparently laid straight onto a chalk/Lime substrate and over the years movement has created gentle undulations in the floor! Architect wants them replaced as original as possible and has asked for a hydrated lime/ sand mix to bed the tiles on. Anyone ever come across this before? All help appreciated as i...

Thread 'UFH with Threshold Vs Cold Floor? - Tilers Forums'
UFH with Threshold Vs Cold Floor? What would you Pro’s do? A new extension has electric UFH in the screed which has been brought up to match the floor level of the house. I’m tiling with porcelain (600x600x10mm) from the extension into the house and would like to install eUFH underneath.

From sub floor up the eUFH looks like: 2mm bed of adhesive under insulation boards 6mm Tile backer boards 2mm bed of adhesive for HC mat decoupling 6mm HC mat with loose cable clipped into it 6mm...
Anti-crack matting and S2 adhesive or is it overkill? Hi guys, 1st post so apologies if I’ve missed any key info. We’ve had liquid screed laid 2 months ago on top of underfloor heating. Question: given the screed is in good condition (flat/dry/no undulation), do I need to lay both an anti-cracking matt and use S2 adhesive or will the S2 adhesive suffice? Or are there other options i.e matting but with a S1 adhesive? I will be priming the screed once I’ve knocked the underfloor...
Porcelanosa Japan Blanco 20cm x 31.6cm Looking for 3 boxes of these elusive tiles (no longer in production). Keepmoat put them in 5 years ago, now need to replace bath & shower ideally without multiple replacements (shower never used as didn’t work properly!) Although they were ordered as Japan Blanco, they are not cream/white but more of a warm mink/pale brown, if that rings a bell with anyone? Advice for sub floor prep Hi, Soon to lay 500mm sq tiles onto screeded hall/kitchen floor 25m2. Hall floor has vinyl tiles stuck to screed. Should I remove vinyl and adhesive then prime and slc or slc over adhesive? There is a 5mm dip just in front of the front door so need to level that anyway. The screed down now is 20 years old, no cracks, looks good, what is your advice on whether decoupling membrane is needed too? Thanks in advance for any advice you offer 👍 Matt Hi, Soon...
Which sealer? Please advise me on a sealer or two. I've had white porcelain tiles with light grey grout laid for 4/5 months & the grout had darkened & the tiles are difficult to clean. Once sealed, I do plan on getting a kitchen runner. I read a review on Amazon for LTP H20 sealer & the image left me worried. There is the spirit/solvent based one but I'd rather use a water based one if possible, but would consider solvent. I've also been looking at Tile Doctor Ultra Seal but can't find...
